A different kind of sewing the last few days, A Batman cape. Too big for my dressmakers dummy to show it off properly. This thing is huge! It has rods in the front edges so that my son can open it up to the full span. Final alterations will happen when he finishes work. The leather look fabric outer and nylon inner was a pain to work with and had me in tears yesterday, Best thing to do was walk away for a little while and calm down! I thought it was not going to happen at one point. 8 metres of outer and 8 metres of lining, 8 panels. Thank goodness for 40% off in Spotlight.
This is the quilt so far. All the blocks have been quilted, I will be joining all the blocks with red. Aussie Hero request is for horses, hiking, sunsets, blue and red. The two middle blocks have been hand painted and stitched.
This is the start of my next Aussie Hero quilt. One of the things in the request was horses. This fabric was a find in Savers Greensborough, cotton curtains. I have stitched it as a grid to start off with, then did the borders in matching thread. The last thing before cutting it to size is to outline all the horses.
Today I am making more playing card pack bags. I decided there must be a simpler way and more efficient way of doing it. This time I made the fabrics 13 inches long by 4 inches wide. Placed them together and sewed them down the long sides chain piecing style. Snipped them apart and then to the ironing board.
Fold in half to find the centre, snip a triangle out at the centre and instead of opening up the seam, fold it up and iron opposite sides.
Turn it over and do the same with the other seams.
Fold the tube inside itself and using a pin match up the seam ends on both sides. This is nesting the seams.
Take the pins out and iron. Lovely and flat but a lot easier to do than opening up the seams.
Sew across the bottom, pinking shear the ends. Put your pack of cards inside to get the correct placement of the snaps. Add the snaps and you are done.
This time instead of joining them together in blocks of 3 and then joining the rows 4 times I am making them in blocks of 5 and then joining the 3 rows together. The outside rows are done, the middle row is left to do. The fabric used to join them all is a paisley print, a very hippy vibe. Meggie is helping.
See the little hand made purse in the lower corner? Originally I had made them for Thank you gifts for the ladies at Spotlight, but at the last minute I thought of taking them to club and selling them to get some things for the gift packs for Aussie Heroes, Well I sold them all. The cards in the picture I have bought this morning will be split up and put into their gift packages, So thanks guys. You are all heroes in my book.
This is what I will be doing this afternoon, making fabric pouches to hold the cards in. I will be starting again with the purses for my Christmas gifts for the lovely ladies in Spotlight.
Yesterday I had a lovely phone call from a friend, She was going to Savers in Greensborough, would I like to come? A day out was a very welcome break and I had not seen her in ages so Yes! I was very lucky indeed and found these bargains. This lovely rocking horse, it has a sound in it too. It neighs and a lovely clip clop sound too by touching the ears. It's mouth and tail moves as well. Perfect for a birthday on Saturday.
This lovely huge roll of cotton fabric with gold accents.
A pair of cotton horsey curtains, perfect for when a horse quilt request comes up.
Total spend on the day, $30. Great value. Thank you for a lovely day out.
These are the cords I have been making for the past couple of days. Need to finish off weaving in the ends on some of them.
I am currently working on quilting T towel flags and other t towels so that I have made a start on the quilts for when the Aussie Heroes are back up and running. All over stippling and changing thread for the different areas.
I have literally run out of cord so I am making my own. I have adapted a knitting Nancy, taken off 2 prongs and bent them back.
I would love to here of any cording that is good value and in bulk if possible, so do send me your suggestions and I will follow them up.
