Quilt Block Assembly.

As I made the blocks and put them into rows I numbered them. Sewing them into groups of 4 and then sewing them row by row. I am enjoying the creativity. Some of the solid coffee fabric is being fussy cut and added to some of the plain blocks for more colour punch and will help tie in the colours better. The back is all solid blocks and will have the netball stuff on them. Quite how it will look when it is finished I do not know at the moment as it is evolving as I go along. I do know however that it will have boarders and one purple block. That block is my cup of coffee that I will explain that in her card. I am having a lot of fun with this.

Sample of blocks.

This is a sample of the blocks I have made today. Some will make it to the quilt as I get more done and editing will happen. White sashings will be added.

Quilting, Shopping And Makes.

I have changed how I am going to make the quilt, I will be using a block from the previous post, making some appliques, doing some stenciling with stitches
Using the colours in the backs too. Look at this lovely fabric I bought from Spotlight! Perfect all coffee. I am very excited about the netball fabric I have been promised to add to this quilt too.
The eyes came from a purchase from ebay to go with the noses I bought from the same place last year when they were on special. (400 pairs for $35). Now I am ready to make toys too.
Last but not least, This is what I bought from the Craft show yesterday, Wool felt from Ric-Rac, (I had my hug from Jodie!) I gave a gift of a vintage sheet to the Crafty Squirrel too, I bought this book from this place,  I have made the knitted dress and beret from the book already last night. I am looking forward to making toys very very soon.
I had a very wonderful day yesterday.

Next Quilt Project.

This is my next Aussie Hero quilt project.
This is the pattern.
I am changing the colours to suit my recipient and also making them in quilt as you go blocks. My recipient loves coffee, pink, black and netball and friends. My cups will be pink, with 1 cup purple, This will be my cup. The sashings black, the background is the coffee and the backing is the black and white fabric. The netball will be appliqued words on the back. I did a search on netball terminology for that.
All the strips have been cut out ready to start on it tomorrow.

Aussie Hero Stuff.

Look at these, Mini TimTams. One of my boys brought these for me and I think they will go down well in the Aussie Hero gift packs. 17 little packs of 2 biscuits in each sealed foil packet. $2.50 per box. I will be adding 1 to a gift pack.

They will make them in sizes personal to them. I have decided to make some for my machine pedals and leads.

Sorting Out And Meggie.

 Meggie Loves her new toy!
Used under supervision because of the little bits that might come off with the Kittie tugs.
 So cute to watch!
No sewing today, (yet), but I have been busy, I have lost a couple of the rubber feet from this machine and have come up with this idea, This is left over from a previous project. Cheap rubber mat, press the machine onto it to get the indentations, exact pattern made. Cut it out, and using double sided paper tape, strong enough that it holds, but not permanent so that you can peel it off to get to the underside of the machine if you need it. Problem solved.
All the tins and containers, have got their place and labels, Now to keep it that way! (2 drawers have no label, bits and pieces in them still, but not enough bits to warrant their own container).

Just For Fun.

Following on from yesterday, I had not done any sewing on the day, but had chosen what I was going to make. Hippo on Parade from Jodie Carleton's Creative Cards was my choice. I made my hippo this morning using a pure wool skirt from the op shop for the hippo.
I really like him! Jodie has a wonderful range of the most delightful softies to make. Her pattern pieces are just beautifully presented and instructions are exceptional. Love her work. I cannot wait to see the girls stuff finished.

Adult Crafternooners.

I had forgotten today was our sewing day, so what a surprise I had when they all came! Just lovely! Here they are making a purse.
Tilli was especially sociable today too, talking her head off and asking everyone for attention at some point, even walking on the table between the machines. Not at all worried that there were a couple of girls she had not met before, Lovely!
 Threading the machine.
putting the pieces of the purse together.
 Pure concentration!
Ta Da! Finished purses. Very clever girls. I can show their faces as they are all adults on facebook!
Softies started. We ran out of time, they stayed as long as they possibly could, Good indication of fun! These are the patterns they are using.
link here where I have written about them before.
I am looking forward to seeing the finished products. (they will e-mail me pictures). These they have made for themselves and they will make some for me for my charities too.
I can honestly say I am looking forward to our next meeting in a fortnights time.
Thank you girls!

Fabric Donation For Charity Makes.

Today I went to our cloth doll club, A.C.D.A. (The link is on my right hand side if you want to learn more), Look at this wonderful fabric I have been given to use by one of our members. (I won't name her unless she gives me permission to do so). Green cotton great for quilts and laundry bags, and blue heavier weight fabric, also cotton, great for backings and bags. Thank you so much  I really do appreciate your support.

Aussie Hero Quilt Finished.

This is what I have done today, a quilt from start to finish. This is for an Aussie Hero request for Maroon, blue, cars and soccer.
This is the back, Just need to add a label and it will be ready to go. Needs a laundry bag to go with it first, something for another day.

Quilt In Progress.

Having come up with a design I am now sewing the blocks together in rows then sewing them row by row. I thought it was a good idea to show you the table and the reason why it is the size it is.

Aussie Hero Quilt Finished.

This is the quilt front. The request was for Purple, royal blue, aqua cats and horses. Hand coloured cats using Crayola fabric markers. and bias binding used to frame each cat and for the joining of the back blocks.
This is the back with horses. Just need to add the label and it will be posted this morning.
My next quilt I will be making blocks for is soccer, I have the perfect back for it already,

Quilt In Progress.

They have all been put into strips. This is the front.
This is the back. Tomorrow they will be joined together.

Close Ups.

I thought you might like a couple of close ups. Bias binding sewn onto the picture, flipped and then blanket stitched onto the background through the sandwich the same colour as the cat body. The blocks will be quilted around the frames in the same colour as the body on each piece except for the uncoloured pictures. Those will be in black. The thread on the back will be white throughout.
The binding on the front is white. 2 1/4 inches wide.
I thought I would give the bias binding a try since I have plenty of it and it works! this is the back. 1 inch bias binding.

Quilt In Progress.

Decision has been made. They are going to be quilt as you go blocks, at the moment they are 10 inches and will be finished as 9 1/2.  3 blocks wide and 7 blocks long. The fronts are all on dark backgrounds of black and white. They will be joined together with white.
This is the back, all the same horses in shades of grey. The back will be joined with teal.

Batting and fabric for the borders which I will do after the rows have been done to get the size right.
My bias binding collection. The colours will be used to frame the teal cat pictures.
All the other blocks will have this bias binding which I was given at the last cloth doll club meeting.
I like it when a plan comes together.

Cat Quilt Continued.

All the pieces of the cat stuff has been cut out, all the pieces have been coloured in and each cat is the same size. 4 sets of 6 pieces in total.
Now the decision is to how to put them together,
I am thinking panels with black borders that go down the centre of the quilt, but that might change! Time to play!
